Bald Eagles Delight Vacationers in Canaan Valley of West Virginia
Timberline Resort Realty Reports Bald Eagles Nesting
Near Spruce Island and Sand Run Lakes
Canaan Valley, WV – June 2008/Timberline Resort Realty/Press Release – Timberline Resort Realty, offering rustic to luxurious vacation rentals and real estate sales in the heart of Canaan Valley – West Virginia’s ‘Swiss Alps’ – is pleased to report that that there are now two pair of American Bald Eagles nesting in the pine tree tops surrounding the Spruce Island and Sand Run lakes in Old Timberline. This 3,300 acre private estate subdivision is adjacent to the Timberline Ski Resort.
This is the first time since at least the 1970’s that Bald Eagles have called Canaan Valley their home. There is a 300 acre open and wooded conservation area that encircles the two lakes where the Eagles are nesting. The Eagles can be viewed in this area; soaring through the skies and swooping down for fish and small animals needed to feed their young.
Vacationers staying at vacation homes fronting the conservatory have been treated from time to time to Bald Eagles flying right past their decks. This is truly a magnificent sight for all of those people lucky enough to see this symbol of strength and beauty in the wild.

The Canaan Valley/Davis area of West Virginia has long been admired for its unique natural beauty, is home to two downhill and three cross-country ski areas; two state parks; the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge; ‘cool-clear’ mountain streams; the Dolly Sods Wilderness Area and the Monongahela National Forest.
The area is considered to be the ‘natural’ playground of the Mid-Atlantic region with outdoor recreation in abundance, including: golfing; geocaching; hiking; mountain biking; horseback riding; bird watching; white water rafting; canoeing; kayaking; rock climbing; downhill and cross-country skiing; snowshoeing; snow tubing; summer turtle sliding and scenic lift rides; fishing and hunting; tennis; swimming and shopping for antiques, paintings and West Virginia crafts. Vacationers are treated to weather which, due to the high mountain elevations, are usually 15 to 20 degrees cooler and significantly less humid than the average East Coast conditions.
“The addition of nesting Bald Eagles only adds to the allure of the Canaan Valley and surrounding areas for vacationers and potential homeowners. Our area is the perfect place to spend time – whether it is relaxing, playing, shopping or dining – our clients always have something to do and enjoy. With a large inventory of private vacation rental homes that range from rustic to luxurious – Timberline Resort Realty has the vacation rental to suite your needs and budget. We invite you to join us ‘Where Eagles Gather’ ”, stated Pat J. Herlan, Broker.
