Under normal operations, your web site has to be in constant communication with your Reservation Software server to provide real-time availability and reservations. Your local server "owns" the master inventory database, while the web site holds a copy. The web site must check the master inventory data to ensure it is synchronized prior to locking a reservation, and then ensure the master inventory database is properly updated before confirming with the customer. If the web site cannot access your local server, it displays an error message. This process eliminates the possibility of a reservationist and the web site double booking a property.
With OfflineEDGE, you synchronize your inventory databases and pass ownership to your web site just before your local server or office is taken off-line. Since the web site now owns the master inventory data, it no longer needs to communicate with your local server and can provide real-time availability and reservations. OfflineEDGE will send you email notifications of all reservation requests made while it is activated. You will then need to confirm these reservations and enter them into your Property Management System. When you are ready to bring your local server or office back on-line and resume normal operations, OfflineEDGE passes ownership back to your local Reservation Software server.
In the case of an unscheduled local Reservation Software server failure, all you need do is activate OfflineEDGE. The link software that maintains communication between your local server and the web site will have kept the web site database up to date.
OfflineEDGE not only provides real-time availability and reservations to your Internet customers while your local server is off-line… it also provides real-time availability and reservations to your staff via the Internet, whether they are at a temporary call center out of the storm's path or in the office during server failure or server maintenance.
Once installed, OfflineEDGE is easily activated through the Technology Administration Console (TAC) of your web site. If you have an emergency situation and can't access your TAC, the VDS Support staff can activate OfflineEDGE for you.
For Property Plus customers, the fee to incorporate OfflineEDGE into your web site is $1000 set up/$350.00 per year. The annual fee will be billed January, 1st.
