President's Corner
As I consider the business landscape in 2004, I often imagine the business
methods that will need to be changed, revised, enhanced and, yes, scrapped
as we move 10, 20, 30 and even 100 years hence. Those businesses who
were visionaries in the 90s focused on making their businesses stronger
through
Internet processes for customer service, revenue generation, product/service
marketing and knowledge sharing. Into the 2000s, we've moved beyond the
need to just be on the Internet, now we are creating new opportunities,
enhancing customer experience and delivering tighter integration to all
of our business processes. The challenge is to not become myopic in our
vision by considering only what is possible today, but to invent and
produce the tools that will continue to enhance our livelihoods for the
future.
Many of Visual Data Systems' customers manage the process of innovation
and execution exceptionally well. In 2003, Hatteras Realty developed
a new marketing strategy to harness the power of the Internet to achieve
market penetration, property management branding and visible homeowner
cooperation. The new strategy achieves a marketing blend through the
use of website images and data to produce self-service high quality printed
marketing materials, including postcards, business cards and flyers that
the homeowner uses to create additional rental demand for their home.
Delivering this product through Hatters Realty's OwnerNet was no small
task. Our programmers worked with Hatteras Realty for over a year to
perfect the process and to integrate the ordering process with our printing
fulfillment partner to create our Owner Self
Promotion product.
We've just begun to roll out the product to other customers and anticipate
hearing soon
about how the additional homeowner marketing is impacting rentals for
this season.
Reaching beyond the stage where your business follows the leader can
be daunting. Fulfilling on current customer expectations as well as
responding to immediate business threats often leads management priority.
In a world in which customer demand for immediate gratification competes
with the threats posed by SPAM, Virus, and network intruders, be they
employees and former employees, competitors or the thrill seeking hacker,
our attentions often follow the latest crisis or the most demanding customer.
We attempt to help you understand some of the tecniques to make your
data clean and safe in two other articles in this issue,
"Data

Networks — A Primer".

maintaining a good set of customer information is no easy task. With
