Visual Data Systems, a leading Web Development firm and a two time winner of Deloitte & Touche’s MD Technology Fast 50, headquartered in Columbia Maryland has an immediate opening for an energetic, detail-oriented Creative Director / Senior Designer to create original and innovative websites for our customer base that includes hospitality (property management), real estate, biotech and nonprofit companies, as well as mentor a group of designers/junior designers.

JOB SUMMARY:

Chosen Candidate will lead a group of designers in developing and flawlessly executing unique client website designs, new product designs, email marketing designs and internal marketing projects that support Visual Data’s and its customers’ business strategies and marketing needs.

In this position, you will consult with other senior team members to produce design projects, internal marketing campaigns and identify new innovations and opportunities in the On-line ecommerce and marketing industry.

Your understanding of the design expectations within the industry will enable you to process each client's unique visual communication objectives into a successful final project at launch.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the creation or direction of any / all client projects from concept to completion, including new product design, website design and build, flash design and implementation, CSS-driven design, marketing collateral, corporate identity or flash design.
  • Lead and participate in brainstorming and discussion of concepts and creative ideas for both product development and marketing on both an internal and client level.
  • Collaborate with sales, programming, email marketing and SEO staff, to develop creative concepts. Provide sales team with real world time estimates and quotations when relevant.
  • Manage, mentor, direct and inspire a small team of graphic designers and freelancers. Offer constructive criticism on design comps and answer technical questions.
  • Manage multiple priorities, deadlines, projects, daily tasks and people efficiently and seamlessly.
  • Ensure design comps, website builds and final projects are accurate / error-free and SEO compliant using industry standard products from the Adobe / Macromedia creative suites.
  • Apply best practices in screen design, css-driven layout, HTML coding and content creation that best fits each client's individual project; mentor and coach other team members in this area.
  • Facilitate training with clients using Adobe's Contribute content management system.
  • Remain up-to-date on the latest developments in software applications and pro-actively identify and recommend appropriate software packages and applications for the company's design environment as they become available.
  • Ensure ongoing training and mastery of new software applications and design techniques for the entire graphic design team as appropriate.

Experience:

  • B.A. or B.S. in relative field of design required (or significant equivalent work experience).
  • 5+ years related professional experience as a senior designer or creative director.
  • Fluent knowledge of all stages of graphic/web design from conceptual to product launch, including composite creation, site builds with templates, FTP knowledge and motion graphic design and integration.
  • Advanced knowledge of layout, typography, color theory, digital photography, imaging, file preparation, CSS standards and SEO design compliance.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Excellent time management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects at once while completing quality work on a timely basis in a team environment.
  • Management and supervisory experience. Ability to mentor other designers to improve their design and professional skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a management relationship with offsite employees, vendors and/or freelancers.
  • Expertise with latest versions of Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, Flash and Dreamweaver. Comfort working with FTP on a live server, coordinating with multiple users.
  • Expertise with design for online media; knowledge of hand-coded HTML and CSS design standards, Dreamweaver Template design, as well as online design constraints with respect to SEO.
  • Experience designing from a marketing perspective, from traditional print marketing (post cards, brochures, etc) to strategic online design (email marketing).
  • Experience working in-tandem with an adept programming team, and applying designs in a coding environment.
  • Occassional opportunity for travel (conferences, etc.).

We are currently looking for a hybrid designer, someone who understands the traditional graphic arts but also has a passion for web design. As part of a small and dynamic team, this is an excellent opportunity to learn and grow in a fast-paced atmosphere. JOB SUMMARY:

Chosen Candidate will work with a group of designers in designing, developing and executing unique client website designs, new product designs, email marketing designs and internal marketing projects that support Visual Data’s and its customers’ business strategies and marketing needs. We are seeking an enthusiastic web designer with excellent design and written communication skills and strong attention to detail.

In this position, you will consult with other members of the design team to produce new web designs for our clients, build solidly designed, SEO-friendly websites in Dreamweaver, and add interactive features using Macromedia Flash. You will work with the Creative Director on both internal marketing campaigns and client-based marketing in the print and online realm.

Responsibilities:
    * Work with Creative Director / Project Managers to create website design comps for our diverse client base.
    * Creatively convey a message with graphics, typography and interactivity, that complements the client’s mission and their existing marketing materials.
    * Use CSS-driven layout, HTML coding, and Dreamweaver Templates, to build out design comps into full fledged websites.
    * Develop online marketing pieces in the form of email template designs for our various clients.
    * Work with Creative Director to ensure design comps and website builds and final projects are accurate / error-free and SEO compliant.
    * Work on multiple projects simultaneously, as well as the discipline to work independently with deadlines.
    * Stay abreast of new software applications and design techniques in the industry.

REQUIRED Experience:
    * Degree in design, art, communications, or industry-related topic required (or relevant work experience).
    * 2-3 years related professional experience as a designer.
    * Knowledge of design composite creation, site builds with templates, FTP with Dreamweaver, and motion graphics.
    * Knowledge of layout, typography, image optimization, branding and general good design standards for the web.
    * Basic understanding of CSS standards, hand-coded HTML and Dreamweaver template design.
    * Advanced knowledge of Photoshop / Fireworks, and Dreamweaver.
    * General knowledge of Acrobat and Illustrator.

Junior Online Marketing Specialist

Location: Columbia , MD

Status: Full Time, Employee

Visual Data Systems, a leading Web Development firm, headquartered in Columbia Maryland has an immediate opening within our Internet Promotions Department for an energetic, detail-oriented marketer to execute search engine marketing strategies to help achieve client goals and objectives throughout campaigns. 2-3 years experience in search engine optimization (SEO), search engine marketing (SEM), and an understanding of search engine trends, search engine algorithms and Pay-Per-Click (PPC) management a must. Marketing/Sales experience is a plus. This position is based in our Columbia Maryland offices.

Candidate will be responsible for executing search engine optimization (SEO) and marketing (SEM) campaigns for a variety of new and existing clients. We are seeking a team player who can contribute daily in fulfilling client-driven requirements, including establishing goals and communicating performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide consistent weekly communication with clients concerning recommendations for improving traffic flow and conversion and reporting status of campaigns
  • Work with other search engine analysts in defining client reporting and delivery of results for successful client campaigns
  • Provide marketing and sales support for search engine promotion division
  • Keyword research to identify client's most targeted and relevant keywords
  • Work with clients to edit existing sites in order to optimize page titles, text links, meta tags, alt tags, headers and body content
  • Edit existing website copy for search friendly, keyword density
  • Ability to make recommendations for improving search engine placement
  • Analyze and report on site activity data and contribute to the development of new ideas
  • Set up and monitor pay-per-click (PPC) advertising campaigns in Overture and Google AdWords
  • Develop and execute A/B testing for copy used in PPC campaigns to increase click through rates and conversions
  • Monitor and study client search engine rankings and ongoing changes in the search engine industry
  • Submit client sites to search engines and directories
  • Research and develop link popularity campaigns providing monthly reports on PPC and SEO campaigns

Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree and 2-3 years professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a client service field. BA/BS in Marketing/Business preferred.
  • Must have excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills .
  • Good understanding of search engine optimization (SEO) strategies including optimized body text, header and title tags as well as organic natural linking campaigns.
  • Proficiency in Dreamweaver and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint). Photoshop experience a plus.
  • Good understanding of pay-per-click engines and search engine marketing (SEM) strategies.
  • Experience with bid management tools (Overture, Google Adwords) a plus.
